Replacing Address/Location bar text with Javascript

Hello

I have a page whose url I want to mask in the Address/Location bar. I am hoping to replace it with another address.

I can't assign the new address to location.href since this causes the browser to navigate to the new address.

I can't use a frameset to hide the url since I cannot place this frameset on a server hosting the new address!

Is there any way to change the address/location bar text using javascript WITHOUT the browser changing the page it is displaying?

No, you can't do it. The only way to do it is with a frameset or creating a new browser window without the address bar.

You could use a redirection service such as the AtHome project at http://www.dhs.org to create a hostname that will redirect to the URL where the page is at.  With the cloaking option on the real address will be hidden.  As the redirection is occuring from another site, this will solve your problems.

BTW...I'm associated with the DHS site and the services there are free.  Just declaring my interest up front so there is no conflict of interest allegations.

How does the cloaking option work?

Generally framesets are used, but I don't want to use this as the real address can easily be discovered.
