I have a strange problem with website displays on my browser (IE 6; Windows XP Home; Toshiba Satellite).
Before reading about my problem please view the following links:
1.
www.ktdc.com - contains 2 links on the top right
a. BOOK ONLINE (linked to an external site that provides online reservations technology)
b. VIEW BOOKING
2.
http://www.miracleworx.com/website_portfolio.htm - contains a list of websites designed by this co. The format is :
a. the site thumbnail hyperlinked to the clients website.
b. Name of the client
c. URL of the website created
3.
www.aurora-hospitality.com - this is my companys website. It contains a section called SHOWCASE DESIGN at the right bottom which has the following :
a. Thumbnail of the site hyperlinked to the website.
b. Name of the client (hyperlinked to the site once again)
All these sites have 1 thing in common. They have used GIF thumbnails which are hyperlinked to external or 3rd party websites that open in a new window.
I am unable to see these thumbnails on my browser. All I see is a blank space or the background colour of the website design. The problem becomes more serious in the event that I am viewing a website which could contain such a thumbnail GIF hyperlink and I wouldnt even know of its presence since it doesnt display; thereby judging the website as incomplete.
There are times when an image that contains a hyperlink hasnt fully downloaded and one can still feel the hoverlink when the mouse is moved over such an area. In my case however, that too doesnt come up since the entire thumbnail doesnt show and hence no hoverlink.
I did the following prior to posting my question on this forum:
a. For my website
www.aurora-hospitality.com, I asked me website designer to remove the hyperlink from the thumbnail image to see if it showed up and VOILA, the image did! Hence I concluded that the problem comes up ONLY when there is a GIF thumbnail with a HYPERLINK.
b. Consulted a friend in the web and mobile technology development field. He asked me to test the problem on a different browser such as OPERA 7 with Java. If the sites appear normal on OPERA then it would be an IE problem if not an XP problem.
Opera is downloading as I write this message.
Other Info: My system was subjected to 2 virus attacks over the last 4 months which were taken care of by the experts on this forum. Coincidentally I noticed the site problems only after that. I am now unsure if the problem existed prior to the attack and I wasnt aware of it or was it a result of the virus attacks.
Please help.
