Hi Experts,
My question has to do with downloading Excel files to an e-portal community we have here at work. We are able to save all types of files to the community so that they can be shared across our organization. When a user wishes to view a file, they browse to the particular "project" on a particular "community" within the portal, click on the link and they are prompted to either "Open" or "Save" the file.
The problem seems to be only with Excel files that are saved out on the community. I originally had this posting in the Excel TA, but I deleted it because I believe this is an IE issue. When I click the link to download the file and select the "Save" button, it works fine. However, when I click "Open", the Excel app begins to load, flashes on the screen and then disappears/unloads.
Now, I'm using Windows 2000, and the Task Manager does not show Excel running in the background after the Excel app disappears (unless I already had Excel running before clicking the link). So, this happens whether or not I have Excel running initially. If I do have Excel already running, nothing changes, and the file I already had open does not close.
The weird thing is that we have tested this problem on several users' PCs and have 2 people out of the bunch that have no problems. So, I've been trying to compare their OS and IE configurations to mine to see what the differences are. So far, I've checked all of the tabs in the Folder Options menu (found in the Tools menu of My Computer or the Control Panel) and the Security and Advanced tabs in the Internet Options (found in the Tools menu of IE or the Control Panel). I've also ruled out that this is a problem that is specific to a user's settings in the e-Portal application, because I logged into the e-Portal using one of those two people's PCs, and it worked for me on their's.
I have thought about trying to use a different browser, but these PCs are govt.-owned, and I am not allowed to install any software.
If any of this isn't clear, please ask where you need the clarification.
Thanks in advance for any help!
