Browse All TopicsHi,
We have an employee that's on the rocks and management suspects he's using his workstation for "less than professional" internet browsing. He's pretty religous about clearing out his temp folders, history, cookies, etc., so getting an accurate browser history seems difficult. My options are:
- install something that logs his history totally seperate from his standard browser history (so even if he deletes everything, I can still get a history of visited sites)...a free option would be great, or
- configure permissions so that he can't delete the history or his cookies.
The first option is preferable, but either one would work for the time being. Any helps/suggestions are greatly appreciated (and rewarded).
Thanks!
Kevin

You can always use gpedit.msc. Using that command you can remove the IE tabs. This will not allow him to use IE for clearing cache, temp and history. If he is smart enough to locate them within Explorer you can assign permissions to them. Take ownership so to speak. Naturally though when this individual is unable to access or clear files it will scream that he is being monitored. You could go the hardware route as well. Devices such as the one I've listed in the link below reside on the back of the pc and monitor EVERY key stroke. Easy! Good luck. David

Other than use a proxy...
Does your company use a Firewall? You should have logs there.
Keyboard logger, they have software ones as well as hardware... here's one I found I think I'm going to get...

Or, If you are using a swich, you can port spam, and setup another computer and snoop/dump all his traffic using a free network sniffer. like Ethreal http://www.ethereal.com/
same can be done if your using a hub. But with a switch, the computers don't have to be near each other.
Then all you would have to do is look for his IP and web traffic.
