Browse All TopicsHi,
I have admin rights over my machine and since yesterday, the LAN settings button in the Connections tab of my IE 7 appears grayed out.
The same thing had happened with my homepage button which I could resolve after installing spybot but unable to do so in this case.
What can I do to rectify this and prevent such problems in the future ?

Try this registry patch:

1) Restores the missing Tabs in IE (usually spyware related)
2) Unlocks the grayed-out Home Page section
3) Removes the Administrator message in Internet Options
To use: download - right-click and select: Edit to view in Notepad.
Right-click and select: Merge - to enter the info into the Registry, and reboot.

It could be Spybot or some other anti-virus/anti-spyware application. They often restrict access to the relavent registry keys. You will probably find incorrect permissions in this registry key or one below it:

Are you on a stand-alone workstation or are you part of a domain?
The problem most likely has to do with Policy settings. If you are on a stand-alone workstation, then you will probably need to check your local security policy via Administrator Tools in Control Panel. If you are part of a domain, you may need to check the domain's group policy to see if the Connections tab is disabled.
