Question

Java Plug-in Security Warning

Asked by: ellandrd

Since uninstalling IE7 thinking it was corrupt and reinstalling IE7 again, each time i try to load a page that uses a Java Applet, the Java Plug-in Security Warning dialog appears in the taskbar, but i cannot view it when clicked.

Its like its locked in the taskbar and the focus has been lost.

I have also tried this in Firefox and i get the same result.

please advise.

what is the warning message?

by: ellandrdPosted on 2007-08-13 at 06:12:10ID: 19683610

I don't get any messages at all.  All i can see is the security dialog in the taskbar - it doesn't show on the screen and when i click the dialog i the taskbar, it flashes and nothing happens.

If i go into task manger and try "switch to" it, it flashes again and nothing shows.  if i maximise it, the dialog maximises but i cant see any buttons or messages.  i cannot set focus on the browser either.  I have to kill the browser to close it off.

Cor - i didn't even know you could uninstall IE7. Did you try reinstalling the plugin?

by: war1Posted on 2007-08-13 at 07:09:02ID: 19684125

Greetings ellandrd !

You should reinstall the Java Applet
http://www.java.com/getjava/

CEHJ, you are right that you cannot uninstall IE7 if it came with Windows Vista.  You can uninstall IE7 if it was installed in Windows XP.

Best wishes, war1

Hi Guys

Still no luck.  I uninstalled my JDK and JRE, rebooted and tried again, but still the "Warning - Security" dialog appears in the taskbar and after that I cant do a thing.

If I click on it, it just flashes.

by: war1Posted on 2007-08-13 at 08:10:13ID: 19684765

Try reinstalling IE7 again.  Make sure all background programs like antivirus and antispyware are turned off while installing.

Sounds like your user profile is corrupt. Create a new Windows profile.

by: ellandrdPosted on 2007-08-13 at 08:13:09ID: 19684798

>>Create a new Windows profile.

so delete my profile stored on the server (because we have roaming profiles enabled ) and in C:\documents and setting\my username\ ?

by: CEHJPosted on 2007-08-13 at 08:18:25ID: 19684852

Sounds very drastic, but if it's Vista, i'll bow out at this point ;-)

by: war1Posted on 2007-08-13 at 08:27:28ID: 19684943

Don't delete the profile yet. Create a new one, and test if it has the problem.

CEHJ, new profile is drastic, but it is better than reinstalling the operating system. User is using Windows XP, or one of the Windows server, not Vista.

ok i logged into my machine as the domain administrator and the problem still exists.

CEHJ, dont worry im no on vista - im running XP Pro.

i dont want to have to reinstall my OS - it took me ages to get my development platform setup and running the way i want it too.

there must be a fix??

by: ellandrdPosted on 2007-08-13 at 08:45:54ID: 19685119

ok i have also uninstall IE7 again and im back using IE6 - still the same - when the Java applet security warning starts it gets locked in the taskbar - wont minimize/maximum and all it will do is flash at me...

is there a taskbar repair that will fix this?

by: CEHJPosted on 2007-08-13 at 09:08:49ID: 19685323

I would uninstall both, clean the registry and then reinstall

by: CEHJPosted on 2007-08-13 at 09:09:46ID: 19685335

by: ellandrdPosted on 2007-08-13 at 09:12:45ID: 19685365

Yes - I even tired Netscape - same thing.

by: ellandrdPosted on 2007-08-13 at 12:34:55ID: 19686962
