Microsoft has a tool for splitting pst files but I believe there is a chance that it will cause data loss. What I would do is create a new pst and cut and paste email over to the new pst. Start with messages with large attachments. It may take a while to move messages and it may even look like outlook has hung but just let it go for 15 minutes or so and eventually they should move.
You may lose data since the pst is so large. Unfortunatly Microsoft didn't tell anyone about this and usually it's too late.

Is your email box full? Sometimes moving email to a personal folder can't be done if your mailbox is full. In the same respect if your pst is over 1GB in office 2000 or 1.5GB in office 2003 the file may have reached its capasity.
I like to keep PST files under 1GB. You can also try to do a scanpst on your pst to make sure the database isn't damaged.
If you can move the email to a brand new PST file the problem probablly resides in your existing PST.
