Question

Internet Explorer Security Settings Not Saving

Asked by: jasonbeaird

This is maddening.  I use Internet Explorer a lot on various website and download Adobe PDF Files.  I get the following error message dialog box when I try to open a PDF:  Security Alert:  Your Current Security Settings Do Not Allow this File to Be Downloaded.  I have gone in and added the website I usually down from as a Trusted Site but this doesn't seem to help.  I've also gone in and lowered the custom security level to Low in IE tools menu, options, security.  NOTHING SEEMS TO WORK AND IT IS DRIVING ME CRAZY.  If I change the security level to 'low' it will work for an hour or a day but invariably, before long I will try to open another PDF file and I will get the same security error message as above.  WHY DOESN'T IE SAVE MY SECURITY SETTINGS?  WHY DOESN'T IT WORK TO ADD SOMETHING TO A TRUSTED SITE?  HOW CAN I STOP THIS MADNESS?

RedKelvin,

I did exactly as you say.  It worked wonderfully for about 23 hours.  Just now, I tried to download a pdf file and got the same error message as before.  I went into the Internet Options, Security, custom level and the two things I checked above are still checked.  But it still gives me the error message when I try to download the pdf file or a hyperlink to an excel file that is posted on a website.  What is going on?  Why must I go through this tortuous misery?  Who can save me from this life of discontent?  Please advise.

If you want to stop the madness, move over to Firefox
www.mozilla.com

I have been using it for well over a year now, and have never looked back

If you want to stick with IE, make sure you have all the updates, and upgrade to IE7, if you are not already there.

If you have not already done so clear your browser cache.

Then reset IE

IE6

IE7

Failing that, out of pure desperation, try creating a new user account and see if that resolves it. Your user account may be corrupted.

I've got my fingers crossed for ya'

It ended up not working and I'm moving to firefox.  I tried the solution above and it worked for about 1 day and then it reverted back to giving me messages saying I had a security alert and this file (pdf file) could not be downloaded with my current security settings.  Not sure what is causing this but I'm fed up and can't take it any more.  Thanks for your help.

Ok, sorry I couldn't help further, but if it is any consolation I think you will enjoy Firefox
