I think that there is also a setting in IE7 that forces FTP pages to open in Windows Explore instead of IE. This alleviates many of these issues.

In IE7 when opening my ftp site, I am having to login twice, Is there a setting to remember the first set of user name and password entered.

The password isn't saved for just FTP but is specific to the site (i.e. the URI or domain). If you use more than one then there is a Login As option in the File menu of the browser.
If you are going to do ftp on different sites and use it fairly often then I really recommend you get an FTP program. I personally like WS_FTP Pro (by Ipswitch) but there are many others. It will save a lot of time for managing different connections, supports more sites and options than IE and is much easier to use. Let me know if you want more info on this.

You are so right b01sc0tt. I do use an FTP program myself, but when you work with individuals and clients that can't even remember their own passwords, you have to dummy it down as much as possible.
I know you guys have all done this at one time or another in IE7 but when I am typing my the url ftp://domainname.com a windows pops up saying To log on to this FTP server, type a user name and password.
So I type the user name and password. My choices after that are Log on anonymously , Log On button and Cancel button.
After that is will log me on in a text format, in the browser is will say
To view this FTP site in Windows Explorer, click Page, and then click Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer.
So I do what it says and log on again, with my user name and password. At this point I have choices again, my choices after that are Log on anonymously , Save password , Log On and Cancel buttons
I am trying to get my users away from entering in the user name and password twice.
I see what you are saying. I don't know a solution to have IE "pass" the login info to Explorer. It doesn't seem to be capable of it but maybe another expert can prove me wrong.
If you want to save some time and don't mind this method then use a URL that contains the login info.
ftp://loginname:password@f
That type of URL will save the login step completely. However IE7 "changes" the URL (just uses the server) so if you then decide to have it open Explorer you will still need to login. If you type the URL above in Explorer just from the start then there will be only one login and it should be pretty easy no matter what the user level.
In my opinion if you want to make things easy for those that need to use FTP then don't use IE or Explorer. You know how much easier it is to use WS_FTP but most other FTP clients, even the free ones, are also easier than IE and Explorer in my opinion. If your clients use a specific program then you can often even setup the configuration so the login, starting remote folder, starting local folder, etc are all preset. If they also use WS_FTP Pro or a program like it then you can even setup a script to do it all automatically.
