The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

IE Home-page appears to be hijacked

Potential Virus Behavior.  We have a windows shop here.  Server 2003; DC, Exchange, and many XP clients.  We recently had a few clients get hit a with a virus.  But most noteably the company's home page seems to have been hijacked.  Web page hosted off-site.  Upon opening internet explorer, the system adds a an extension to the URL... for example...

If our URL was http://www.xyz.com  this extension gets added "/low-resolution.php" so IE attempts to reach http://www.xyz.com/low-resolution.php...
while no page exists, IE flickers over and over again until you kill it?

Anybody have any ideas about how to trouble shoot this?

Things to note:

1)  We run Corp Syamntec Antivirus 10.  All scans have come up clean.
2)  I downloaded webroot spysweeper, and all scans came up clean (except for a few cookies which is to be expected).
3)  This has shown up on XP and server 2003 builds, so far the exchange, file, and DC servers are showing this behavior.
4)  On versions of IE 6 and 7; we've flushed temp internet files, cookies, and reset all IE web settings during our troubleshooting.
5)  All servers and workstations are running the latest MS updates.
6)  More than half of the environment is still clean, showing no problems.

Help!  Any thoughts on how to eradicate this would be extremely helpful.
