IE8 broke standalone IE6

I installed IE8 yesterday fine.  I also have MultipleIE installed so that I can run IE6.  It connects to pages fine, but I can't click on any textfields.

I've googled this problem and have only seen posts about IE6's connectivity issues after installing IE8.  I can connect fine, I just can't click on any input fields.

Is there a fix out there?  I could run a VM with IE6 installed, but I would like to save that as a last resort.

IE8 is beta and therefore has unforeseen problems with it.  I would never recommend using a Beta on a production machine.  Have you tried removing IE8?

It's installed on my workstation so it isn't affecting anything in production.  Our team is already testing our site to make sure it renders correctly so I can't exactly say "lets uninstall it".

From what I see, the only thing its broken so far is my standalone IE6. My standalone IE7 works fine.

Have you tried reinstalling IE6?  If that doesn't work, then your VM will be the way to go.

As we've noted and you understand, IE8 is Beta. Beta means it will break things.  Never mind the fact that IE6 was never fully a standalone program, so it sounds like VM is going to have to be the way unless you work with MS on fixing it's compatibility of a supposed standalone IE8 with a not supported ie6.

If you aren't willing to reinstall the OS and then install IE8 as a test, you may not be able to figure out why (or how) it broke.

Yes, I reiterated that your conclusion was correct.  Sometimes the right answer is "You can't do that."
Unfortunately for you, the correct answer to your question "Is there a fix out there?" is

"No, not yet."
