Windows cannot find C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE

I have scoured google for a solution but cannot seem to resolve
If i try to run Internet Explorer i get:
---------------------------
C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE
---------------------------
Windows cannot find 'C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------
So I read this is spyware and ran spybot which did find a few issues including some relevant BHO's that I beleive we to do with the issue. It removed all these and I restarted.
I removed IE from the add remove windows compnenets and the reinstalled
I also ran the latest IE7 update multiple time, still no luck
I recent spybot scan found no errors and my Hicjack log looks clean (available if requested)
I also found some vbs script to initiate re-insall of IE whereby I have to point to numerous
system files that it looks for when re-installing at the end it says:
---------------------------
RUNDLL
---------------------------
Error in iesetup.dll
Missing entry:IEAccessSysInst
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------
I read that this DLL was not important

Can someone please advise as to how I can resolve this

"c:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE"

Thats the right path... Does the file exist?

"I removed IE from the add remove windows compnenets and the reinstalled"

This doesnt uninstall IE.....

Lets start with the Hijack This logfile.....

If you have IE7....

Start>run>"C:\Windows\IE7\Iexplore.exe"

Does that launch IE?

The file iexplore.ece is in location "c:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE"
 along with other files

double clicking this also brings same message

same message returned when using the run command above

iexplore also resides in the folder mentioned c:\windows\ie7\iexplorer.exe

You can try this to Reinstall Internet Explorer...

To Reinstall IE6:
1) Insert the Win XP CD

2) Open Start | Run and type or paste:

rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132
c:\windows\inf\ie.inf

Press ENTER

Hope this helps. Let us know.
i forget to tell you that,
it might ask to insert xp with service pack 2 cd...
so if u xp with inbuilt sp2 its good..
let me it solved or not.
Copy this into a Command prompt, at start>run>cmd

reg query "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\iexplore.exe" /s

Might get an error, but lets see....

HJT log looks good....

Lets also try this.

Do a Clean Boot and see if it still happens... If not, good old process of elimination will have to start working to narrow the culprit down.....

How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" state
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353

No startup items, and no Services, except for what will not disable....
Hi Global Expert when I run that command in a command prompt it returns:

---------------------------
Error
---------------------------
Installation failed.

---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

johnb6767 - I tried the reg query in command prompt which returned no errors and seem to process okay
after restart I still have the problem
I'm now going to try a Clean Boot and let you know

Thanks both for your comments so far
Ok so running a Clean Boot did not resolve the problem
I ignored Method 1 as I wanted to do it manually, worked my way through Steps 1,2 and 3 and rebooted,
still no luck in running IE

I then did step 4 and rebooted which made XP look really basic. But still runing IE from the icon in start menu returned same error and also if I try running it from the program files folder

It would seem to be a registry issue and I think the IE re-install should repair this although the one suggested by Global Expert does not work and the vbs one I tried did not work. Is it an idea to look into how to fix the registry?

Or what other steps could I try?
Anyone have further ideas, can I do a reg compare with a working IE7 installation
Bump
Still no luck, i tried

Comparing the reg with a working XP install and imported a couple of REG folders

HKLM-SOFTWARE-MS-IE folder
HKLM-SOFTWARE-MS-WINDOWS-CURVER-IntSet - folder
I removed IE7 using the spuninst.exe within ie7 folder
I create a new profile and tried running IE in this
But still same messge appears, so I imported my original reg folders

I'm really stuck on this one

Actually, in my posting, 23584450, we would have had this solved without AutoRuns, along time ago. I realize now, I forgot to ask you to post the output from that command......

Glad you got it...
