The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Why will JavaScript and Active X Controls not work

Asked by ThePrettyGeek in Web Browsers, Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware

Tags: Active X Controls, Java Script, Packet Loss

OS: Windows Vista Home Premium
Browser: IE7 and IE8
.Net Framework 3.5
Serverlight 2
Java Version 6 Update 13
Flash Verison: Unknow

This I am finding rather odd.
My issue started out with not being able to logon to a site. all other links on the page worked fine but when I clicked the logon button I would not go anywhere. The logon button was a javascript submit button so I thought possibly it was a java issue so I went to download the newest java runtime. when I got there I could get to the download page but the download would never start. The page there says if you are having problems you should look at the top of the browser to allow the download because you may have to install the active x control. I didnt think too much of it just yet so I went to the control panel and was able to update java there.

I was still not able to logon

I decided to just try and update every plugin I could think of so I started with Flash and shockwave... Again I cannot install it because I cannot seem to run active x controls.

I enabled or set to prompt every active x control in tools>internet options> Advanced> Settings

Still no luck

What I found next was rather odd, I got a page could not be displayed to google so I I ran a continous ping and found packet loss about 25ish % on each domain I tried.

Next I ran virus and malware scanners including Stinger, Avira, and Pest Patrol.

Pest Patrol would crash when I tried to launch it from the tray or from the start menu items. I had to run the pest patrol updater and it would tell me it was up to date and then launch the actual program... Kinda odd but I went with it...

Avir and Stinger and Pest Patrol found nothing...

I did a regedit and looked in the run items... HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce...

The only thing in there was the windows vista media center

I tried doing windows updates and updated from IE7 to IE8... Still no luck...

I reset winsock and the tcp/ip settings using "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" and "netsh winsock reset catalog".

still no

Any Suggestions to try would be greatly appreciated.
