Question

Problem with link on my website

Asked by: dianebrandt

I have a direct sales business out of my home.  The main corporate office provides a website for me which is www.homemadegourmet.com/dianebrandt.  On the website is a link "Easy Recipes" which directs you to our recipe database.  However when clicked on my computer I get the following:

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80040e57'

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]String or binary data would be truncated.

/FMDCode/NewestTrackingInc.asp, line 188

Please help me correct this so that I can get to our recipe database.  Thank you.  Diane Brandt.

It is an error on your webserver application. You cannot resolve it and you should call system administrator if it's "your" website or company contact if not.

This error basically means that somewhere there is a request for a recipe with to the database that is larger than a field in the database is set to handle. Is there anyway you can get scripts and code for your site posted on here?

I just checked it and it works !

Unless your provider/web hosting company fixed it !
If you still encounter the problem you should try:
1.Update your Internet Explorer
2. Install Mozilla (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/personal.html)

The IT director for Homemade Gourmet was out of town last week so I was unable to talk with her until today.  Basically, no other consultant in the US (over 900) is having a problem accessing the recipe database so the problem is not with the server.  Also no other customer has indicated that they have a problem.  Therefore the problem has to be with my computer.  I updated Internet Explorer as one person suggested.  That did not correct the problem.  I do not know what else to do.  I do not know what the all the words mean that I see when I try to access the "easy recipes" button.  All I know is that as someone who sell food locally for Homemade Gourmet, I need to access the recipe database to show my customers about this benefit..

dianebrandt,

The link on the website works. That means the link you are clicking is NOT on the internet. Make sure the address in your web browser is http://www.homemadegourmet.com/dianebrandt and not something else.

I think your browser is searching your computer for the link and not the internet.

Best,
MH

That link redirects to http://www.homemadegourmet.com/HG-redesign-index.aspx.

When you click on the link for "Easy Recipes", it goes to http://recipes.homemadegourmet.com/.

It looks like the starting web site is an ASP.NET web site, and the redirected site is ASP classic.

I don't see any reference to "NewestTrackingInc.asp" on any of the pages...

To MHenry:
The link on the website works for everyone else but me.  I do have the correct address on my web browser.  I am able to access every other link on the page including logging into my "Consultant's Office Page" from the link on the upper right hand corner.  Every other link on the page works:  Shopping, Product FAQs, About us, etc.  The only one that doesn't work is the "Easy Recipes," and it just doesn't work on my computer.

To TheLearnedOne
You are correct that the website www.homemadegourmet.com/dianebrandt redirects to http://www.homemadegourmet.com/HG-redesign-index.aspx.  It has always done that and does that for all consultants.  And when I was able to access the Recipe Database it would go to http://recipes.homemadegourmet.com/.  It just doesn't do that anymore on my computer for the recipe database.  I just get the message I stated at the beginning when I try to access the recipe database by clicking on "Easy Recipes" on my website which I will restate again:

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80040e57'

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]String or binary data would be truncated.

/FMDCode/NewestTrackingInc.asp, line 188

I don't understand your next 2 sentences because I don't know what an ASP.NET web site is or ASP classic nor do I know about "NewestTrackinginc.asp".  I am not that knowledgable about computers.

Thank you for your help.
Diane Brandt

Have you tried clearing your cache, cookies, etc?  It sounds like something is memorised from a previous visit and is being repeated every time you return there.  Another possibility is malware on your pc.  Have you tried accessing the site with Mozilla Firefox as timoros previously suggested?

by: DanRollinsPosted on 2009-08-07 at 17:34:26ID: 25047757

If you right-click [Easy Recipes] and select "Open Link in New Window" does it work?

On my computer is see a popup being blocked when I click it normally.  It mgight be related to your browser settings related to popups.

However, I think it's more likely that the server-side script is doing something that is peculiar to you -- thus it is probably cookie related.  "Peculiar to you" might be your name or some special ID that is associate with you.  The SQL error message indicates that it tried to store something in the database that is longer than expected.

I didn't initially install the Mozilla as suggested because I had used the Mozilla before and felt it was causing problems.  But then one of the other Experts suggested using the Mozilla again so I installed it and low and behold it worked.  I now am able to access the recipe database through the "Easy Recipe" link on my website.  I don't understand why it works on the Mozilla Firefox browser and not Internet Explorer browser, but it does.  I should have used your suggestion earlier.
