I read from Dell site about your recommend utility package:
"The MD Update Utility is a virtual disk update which prevents potential
RAID 1 rebuild errors from occurring after a drive replacement. The potential
errors would only apply to original SAS 6/iR RAID 1 configurations which have
not been modified by the user."
I don't think it is right solutions for me.
I using BMC instead to check status of disk.

Within the Dell download section there is the SW Raid utility for linux

That is one indication for Red Hat Enterprise
Depending on what linux you run. i can only find support for Red Hat and SuSE
