How do I capture the back button event in IE, Firefox, and Chrome?

I can currently capture the back button event (using Javascript) in IE and Firefox by using a hidden iframe (when the back button is hit, the iframe reloads and I capture it there).  However the iframe does not reload in Chrome when the back button is hit.

So I either need a different way to capture the back button in all three browsers or a different way to capture it in Chrome.

Or a redesign of your application so you do not NEED to know that the back button was clicked

I cannot redesign my application at this point.  And you are correct - this question is a different way to ask my previously posted question (how to get an iframe to reload on the back button in Google Chrome).

Finally, a hidden iframe is a pretty slick way to capture the back button event.  It works correctly in both Explorer and Firefox, so my thought is it's a problem in Chrome (and it appears that Chrome does have issues with iframes).

I think there is a caching issue in chrome too.
Sorry I cannot help you more.
I suggest you consolidate both questions in a new one and delete the other two. That way we can get fresh eyes on this

Can't be done

If you have a web application that needs to capture the back button, your design is fundamentally flawed (as has been said)

Have another think about how to do this

But put "capturing the back button event" out of your mind
