IE 10 Install Errors
Having trouble installing IE 10 on a Windows 7 Home SP1 laptop. The automatic update for IE 10 kept failing so I download the update and ran it manually. It is stopping at the point that it needs addition updates, the problem is that all the prerequisite updates are installed. I have checked out KB2818833 and downloaded the required prerequisites: KB2729094,KB2731771,KB2533 623,KB2670 838,KB2786 081. When I run each update manually they say they are already installed, but update KB2533623 says that it is not “applicable to the computer” even though I found article about the newer KB2533623 and downloaded it. I am pretty well stumped.
Have you tried jumping straight to IE11?

I too had all the prerequisites installed, however, the following files showed why ie10 would not install on my workstation (missing packages):
1. %SYSTEMROOT%\IE10_main.log
2. %SYSTEMROOT%\Logs\CBS\Chec kSUR.persi st.log
I got ie10 working by the following website/commands:

For each listing from above dir-command, I created the following command:
1. %SYSTEMROOT%\IE10_main.log
2. %SYSTEMROOT%\Logs\CBS\Chec

Try installing IE 10 in Safe Mode.
Install .NET Framework updates separately from others.
KB2533623 is for developers, so probably you should not be concerned you cannot install it.

So everyone left me some good things to try and appreciate all the help. This is what I have done.
Windows update is not showing that there are any missing .Net updates
Ran SFscan no problems found.
IE 11 won't install either, pretty much the same issue as IE10 it wants updates.
Looking at the %SYSTEMROOT%\IE10_main.log I found two errors:
WARNING: Checking version for C:\Windows\System32\api-ms -win-downl evel-user3 2-l1-1-0.d ll. The file does not exist. Looked at two other systems and the file is not there either. Since it is not stopping the install, I am not sure it is really a big deal.
Launched package installation: C:\Windows\SysNative\dism. exe /online /add-package /packagepath:C:\Windows\TE MP\IE12B44 .tmp\KB267 0838_amd64 .CAB /quiet /norestart

This error led me to KB2823483 which talks about some hybrid video card problems and IE 10. I installed the newest updates from HP but that didn't help either. I don’t know what the KB2670838 file that the error is talking about is for. I even tried clearing the temp directory and letting it re-download the file. No dice. So that is where I stand, after way to many hours I am no better off than I was. I very much appreciated all the help so far but it looks like more may be in order. Thanks

No one was able to help. Decided to just rebuild the machine. It is going to be quicker in the long run.

You have used the solution I offered in my post http://#a39711016 which was to reinstall Windows. Accordingly, you should accept that solution instead of closing it as your own solution.

I don't consider the solution to reinstall windows as a "solution". It that was the case I didn't really need to as a question. Why even bother saying it. It's everyone's answer to everything that goes wrong with windows.
We took you through all the possible steps and nothing worked. When nothing works, reinstalling Windows is a proper solution. That is what you did and it worked. So that is the solution.

I don't understand how does everyone think that the answer to reinstall the OS as a good answer. That is not an answer it is just another way of saying "I don't know". You have forced me to give the points are you also going to force me to give a better grade. If that's what you want me to do just let me know because I will do it. Not sure what else you want me to do, you didn't like my response fro not giving the points you are going to like this response.
