Safari for Windows: Acrobat Plug-in. The Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a web browser.

My client is running:  windows xp pro fully patched, ie8, safari, Acrobat Professional 6, Adobe Reader 9.  He can open PDF files within ie8, but unable to in Safari.  Error received:  Acrobat plug-in.  The Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a web browser.  Please exit Adobe Acrobat/Reader and exit your web browser and try again.

Adobe Acrobat/Reader is not open.

have you tried reinstalling adobe acobat after installing safari?

Yes, I did.  I apologize that I didn't state what resolutions I attempted first.

Attempted resolutions:
  Uninstall Safari
  Uninstall Adobe Reader 9
  Reinstall Safari
  Reinstall Adobe Reader 9
  Full update of Adobe Reader 9
  Full update of Safari
  Adjust Adober Reader 9 preferences.

Is your Safari prefs under security set as below?

Ok how about going to msconfig and uncheck the adobe reader from the start up tab.
Also you might need to make Safari the default browser

Restart computer then try again.
