Exhchange 'The remote server did not respond to a connection attempt'

Hello,

In Exchange2K3 I'm getting 'The remote server did not respond to a connection attempt' in the queues for outgoing mail. And for the mail that does go, it stays in the queue for a few minutes first.

I have 2 BE servers with a connetor to the FE. I have checked DNS which seems fine, can telnet into destination servers. Strange thing is that is was working yesterday and nothing has changed.

you can telnet into which destination servers?
the emails are stuck on which server?
increase the disgnostic logging for "Transport" on the server that has the queues built up and check the application logs

Thanks,

I can telnet into the destination mail server  that the FE is queuing for.
The mails are stuck in queues on FE server.

Following was in application log:

Following connector's linkstate is suppressed because it either points to or comes from a leaf RG node. <CN=Front End,CN=Connections,CN=First Routing Group,CN=Routing Groups,CN=First Administrative Group,CN=Administrative Groups,CN=Morgannwg,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=morgannwg,DC=local>

And:

Message delivery to the host '80.168.70.180' failed while delivering to the remote domain  'clara.co.uk' for the following reason: The remote server did not respond to a connection attempt.

check the configuration of the connection mentioned in the error.
also if you paste the entire event, it will be helpful to troubleshoot the issue

Played around with the connectors and SMTP virtual servers FQDN and it seems to be working OK now. I will award the points because you showed me how to turn on logging which helped -
