The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

How do I turn on/activate the Message Queuing services?

Tags: Microsoft, Vista, Message Queuing
I am trialing a program that wireless syncs my Blackberry with my Act! 2008 - Handheld Contact.  The installation of the desktop side of the program continues to fail, with an error message that says that Message Queuing Services in not installed.  I have worked through the problem with the tech support of Handheld Contact.  They could not get the MSMQ to install through the Windows Components.  Can anyone suggest a reason why it will not allow me to configure this feature?  I should have full administrative privileges on this computer.  (But, I never seem to know with Vista, what privileges I am working with.)

MSMQ is pre-installed on all versions of vista.... so all you're supposed to do is "enable" it via the control panels Programs and Features/"Turn Windows features on or off" screen

What kind of message (or event log entries) do you get when you attempt to enable it?

When I turn the feature on, I get the following error "An error has occurred.  Not all of the features were successfully changed."  I've attached a txt file with some of the most recent Administrative Events Error messages.  I don't know if this will info will help you figure out what is happening/or not happening.

This is one of the error message as a sample

I found this post on Microsoft forums that's related to the issue you're experiencing:  http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2112409&SiteID=17.  About 1/3 down the page, a Microsoft tech offers a few troubleshooting steps that may be helpful.

Well, as I'm sure you've noticed, the problem is with the Windows Installer...   I've heard of cases where the Installer gets "stuck", and will mess up a lot of things (like changing windows configurations).

I did a quick google search and there doesn't appear to be any magic bullet to solve the problem.   I suggest you just slug thru all of the suggestions you find on the internet and hope that it fixes it.

...sorry

Thanks for the input.  I haven't found any of the web solutions to work for me though.

When I ran a few searches for solutions to your problem it was definitely slim pickings.  Short of a call to Microsoft support, it's slim pickings.

We use a "4 hour rule".... if we can't fix it within a half a day, we save the users files and re-image the PC.    That's probably not much of a consolation to you, since reloading the OS and all of your apps would probably take a better part of day.

Thanks for all of the feedback.  I think that I will have to find a quiet weekend, when I can reformat the desktop.  I just can't afford to be down for a day during the week.  And this problem is not related to a critical app.
