office 2010 please wait while windows configures microsoft office single image 2010
I have a clean Windows 7 64-bit install with all updates applied.  No other software installed.  No anti-virus installed.  Installed Office 2010 Home and Business.  Installation had no errors.  When attempting to run any program from the start menu (Outlook, Word, Excell) I receive a dialog box that says, "please wait while windows configures microsoft office single image 2010".  This appears to run twice then disappears.  This is what I have tried so far:

Uninstalling Office and reinstalling (multiple times, even using an office scrubber utility to remove all traces)
Ran Outlook.exe with the /resetnavpane switch
When running outlook.exe from the program files directory, received an error dialog, "Cannot start Outlook.  Cannot open Outlook window"
Tried every Microsoft KB article that I could find and every "Fix It" solution

As I said, clean install of Windows and no other software installed.  Help!

Re-Run the Office 2010 Install
Choose to ADD/Remove Options
In the list of application options right click on each one
Choose Run ALL From My COmputer

Do this on Each one in the list from the top to the bottom.
Next

When finished updating, restart PC and try again

Thanks for your reply apache09, but that didn't work, either.  I even tried another uninstall, then a reinstall with all programs selected to Run All from My Computer, but I still get the same dialog box and none of the programs will run.

Hrmmm, might check that Windows Search is ON

If it is, turn it off, restart PC, Turn Back on and try Office again

Still no luck.  Turned off Windows Search.  Reboot.  Uninstall Office.  Reinstall Office. Reboot.

But now I have discovered something:  When I go into Control Panel, Programs and Features, Office 2010 and select "Change" then select "Add or Remove Features", ALL programs are set to "Installed on first use" even though I selected "Run All from My Computer" during installation.  So I changed every program to "Run from my computer".  Office went through the installation process.  However, when I go back in and check again, all programs are set back to "Installed on first use".

Hrm are you using an Customized Office setup.exe?

If so might need to check the Customization settings to make sure the installtion has not been modified to Install on First Run.

Silly questin here too, but you are installing it as Administrator right?

Just using a standard OEM DVD installation disk.  It has been installed on this laptop previously.  Hard drive crashed so having to reinstall everything.  Installing as Admin and have UAC turned off.  I am not an expert by any means, but I do administer an SBS network so I know my way around a little.  This is really blowing my mind.  Only difference between this and original installation is that I installed Windows from a disk rather that using the Lenovo Recovery image (couldn't boot from the recovery disks).  I'll try almost anything at this point.  This is my work laptop and I'm going out of town again next week and need to get everything reloaded and ready by Monday.  Appreciate your help.

hrm Image might be buggard...
Even more so, Hard Drive Crash?

Did you replace the Drive or just format and re-image?

If just formatted and re-imaged possible the drive is actaully damaged and image has become corrupt.

Id try it on another drive you know is good.
Im guessing you still have the image?

New hard drive.  Old hard drive wouldn't even spin up properly.  And I used a Windows 7 CD that I had and did not use the Lenovo image (recovery disks).  So everything should be fresh.

>>> did not use the Lenovo image   <--- Be sure then that you have updated all the drivers. Chipset, video and power management would be two prime candidates. Generally the Lenovo recovery disks are best if you can get them. But you can get the drivers from the Lenovo Support site. I would do them all while you are at it.

Yep. I ran the Think Vantage System Update utility which automatically downloads and installs the latest drivers. Lenovo is sending new recovery disks but they wont be here until Monday and I will be on the road. Probably will take the zero and pay for Microsoft support tomorrow. I aporeciate all of your help. Happy Thanksgiving

All Updates Installed, include Office 2010 SP1?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2460049

Hrm...Possible the new drive is buggard?

""Installed on first use"" I really think this is the root of your problem

When you get to this stage, is the installation media still in the DVD Drive?

IS this PC on a domain?
Afte it was image did you add it to the domain right away?
Did you install office after it was added to the domain?

Thinking there may be a GPO affecting it...

Can you open word, excel, outlook in safe mode
start>run>outlook.exe /safe
Guessing you get the same error

How long have you let it go saying...please wait?
