The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Problem opening Excel template via VB6 userform

Asked by nisey in Miscellaneous Software

Hello everyone.  This is my first visit to this forum so please be gentle with me...

I'm using VB6.0 SP5 on Windows 2000 V5.0 SP-3 and Office 97 SR-2.  I've used the following code to open and run an Excel template from my VB6 userform:-

Private Sub RunTemplate()

Dim xlApp As Excel.Application

Set xlApp = New Excel.Application
If xlApp.Visible = False Then xlApp.Visible = True
xlApp.Workbooks.Open FileName:="\\server01\depts\it\excel\billing analysis
form\Billing Analysis Form V2.1.xlt", ReadOnly:=False

End Sub

This looks like it's opening the template fine, and displays the userform within the template as normal.  The problem is, when the code hits any lines with the 'Worksheets("sheetname").Select' command, the sheet is not being selected.  The result is that all code is being performed on the first sheet that opens, causing an unholy mess.  I have tried changing the .Select to
.Activate but this hasn't made any difference.

Am I missing something with regards to opening an Excel template, as opposed to a standard Excel workbook, via VB?  If so, can someone please point me in the right direction?!  I want to be able to effectively just call the template from my VB userform then close the VB
project and let the Excel template code do the rest.

Many thanks
