If there is a limitation to the size of the email you can send, you could try this file splitter. Works well. It's freeware.

hello sehwag,
You want to shrink those .dat files to send them via mails, etc.
You have to follow this 2 processes.
First convert your .dat files to .mpeg files. This will give you a compression of atleast 10-20% with no loss in quality.
The best free easy to use tool is VCDEASY.
http://www.vcdeasy.org
After you have finished doing this.
you can further compress the .mpeg files to .ACE Archives.
I am recommending .ace archives coz, they have the most powerful alogrithm to compress multimedia formats.
Use Winace (www.winace.com) to compress those .mpeg files.
You can .ace this files to SFX Archives, making them smaller in sizes, of 1,2,3,15,50 MB or any size that you wish too.
Regards,
Sandy...

Now way you can compress an mpeg1/2 file (avseq.dat) using zip/rar/ace .
You'll have to re-encode it using a high compression codec like xvid / Windows Media / Real / Any other MPEG-4
try to use TMPEG or VirtualDub . check the toutorials on www.doom9.org
