The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. Internet Explorer / Java problems

I am using Windows 2000 and am having serious problems with Internet Explorer.
A lot of the time when I goto a page, I will get an error "Internet Explorer cannot open <URL>". It occurs atleast hald of the time. IT seem to be related to pages that have Java / Jscript in them. For example when I check my HOTMAIL and I am loading the INBOX page, I will get this error. If I am lucky enough to be able to view the page, I can't delete messages, because everytime I mark the checkbox next to a message I get a Jscript error.

The problems began a couple of days ago when I tried viewing a webpage and all of a sudden, adware windows popped up and an x-rated dialer program started to automatically install itself. I told it to uninstall, but a whole bunch of ad programs were then resident in TASK MANAGER. I deleted these programs from Microsoft Windows Startup Run registry setting, and ran SPYBOT to delete all the spyware that this dialer installed without my permission.

I've tried everything - reinstalling IE 6, applying SP4 patch, re-registering IE DLLs (ie. mshtml.dll, jscript.dll), reinstalling Sun Java packages, reinstalling JAVA VM, changing security settings in INTERNET OPTIONS, allowing full control of ActiveX controls, etc. I have even disabled features in Spybot that I thought may have been conflicting.

Anyone have any ideas what I can except for re-installing the operating system from scratch?
