I found this rather complicated solution on another forum for the above problem. Do you run NAV? If so this may help you.........Maybe before trying this a check at the NAV site might suggest a better fix. Good luck!

I'm going to pass on something that anybody using Norton
Antivirus and MS Office needs to know. This will cure the problem of the
missing cursor.
How to enable and disable the Norton AntiVirus plug-in for Microsoft Office
Situation:
You want to know how to enable or disable the Norton AntiVirus (NAV) plug-in
for
Microsoft Office.
Solution:
How you do this depends on your version of NAV. Follow the instructions in
the section
that applies to your version of NAV.
Norton AntiVirus 2002/2003
To enable the plug-in for Office 2000 or Office XP:
1. Start NAV. If NAV is part of Norton SystemWorks (NSW) or Norton Internet
Security
(NIS), then start NSW or NIS, and then select Norton AntiVirus.
2. Click Options, and then click Miscellaneous.
3. In the "How to keep Microsoft Office documents protected" section, check
Enable
Office plug-in.
4. Click OK, and then exit NAV.
To disable the plug-in for Office 2000 or Office XP:
1. Start NAV. If NAV is part of Norton SystemWorks (NSW) or Norton Internet
Security
(NIS), then start NSW or NIS, and then select Norton AntiVirus.
2. Click Options, and then click Miscellaneous.
