Convert ATRAC3 to WAV or MP3

How can I convert an ATRAC3 file to another format such as MP3 or WAV?  I have a Sony Portable MiniDisc Recorder (MZ-N707) that is used to record live voice via external microphone. I just need to convert it to something that can be manipulated.  Please help me.

Currently the only way is realtome by effectively playning the track into your PC and re-recording it using a recording package of your choice. Nt suprisingly this is lossy & quality will suffer.

The real experts on this problem hang out here:

The search tool is free to use without registering

There are lots of tips on best approach using the direct record method but effectively Sony have tied up the format in copyright legislation & if anyone has cracked it they are probably keeping their heads down!

M :o)
sorry about the spelllling it's a bit early here!

Recording the recording is not an option due to the nature of the content. This is for the recording of vocals for music which will later be manipulated using PROTOOLS mixing equipment.  Brother in-law is a musician...

There must be an answer
Is it possible to simply record the audio in a different format?

I dont suppose anyone wants to assist me in aquiring the programs...
hmm...

Orestis' post lead me to re-visit the idea of finding these apps on the net, I had tried months ago without any luck.  This round I found Protools, Cubase, Wavelab and Cakewalk...lucky me...
While this didnt really answer the question, it was a catalyst to something else that made me happy.

Before I made my original post on this site, everything I had seen and read indicated that the simple file conversion was impossible. I just figured I would throw it out there any way.  Masqueraid spoke for this community by confirming that this was the case.

Thanks guys,

Rick
