I cannot get commenting to work on Adobe Acrobat Reader 6. I don't have the commenting toolbar!
Commenting is a new feature with Adobe Acrobat Reader 6.0. However "my" Adobe Acrobat Reader 6.0 doesn't seem to have it! In the online help of the Reader it is explained how to turn the commenting toolbar on - just like any other toolbar. But my toolbar list doesn't contain Commenting toolbar (I have tried all the different ways they describe in the help file - I don't see it anywhere).
It is mentioned in the online help, that commenting features are only available if the PDF file has Commenting enabled in the security settings. So I have tried different PDF files - ones with no security, ones with 128bit security and all features enabled - still I can not see any commenting tools in my Reader. I have also opened the Reader with no file - all toolbars are there - except Commenting.
I have checked registry entries for Adobe Acrobat Reader. All the toolbars are defined there (with their positions and so on). And teh Commenting toolbar is there!!! The key is: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software
\Adobe\Acr
obat Reader\6.0\AVGeneral\cTool
bars. However the Commenting toolbar definition in the registry has bHidden and bWindowHidden properites set to 1, just as the toolbars which are turned off. It also has some crazy values for window position: 0x80000000 for bottom, top, left and right. I have tries to manualy set those to some reasonable values and tried to delete bHidden and bWindowHidden properties (and also tried to set them to 0). But is deosn't help. I start the Reader and still have to Commenting toolbar. After I exit the Reader - registry values are back to what they were - hidden and 80000000 positions.
Of course I have been through all Preferences settings but can not find anything applicable.
I have the latest Acrobat Reader 6.0.1 2003-11-03. I have just downloaded it today and reinstalled it just in case.
I am using Windows 2000 SP4 with all security patches installed.
Please help me - I desperately need this commenting feature :)
Thanks
