This is a tough one guys, I've been round and round with this for months and am at a loss to explain it.
I have a user here running Windows NT 4.0 (SP6 with all current patches/fixes) and using Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1 (again fully patched). He consistantly gets the "This program has encountered and error and needs to close" error with the "Send Error Report to Microsoft" dialog when using IE 6.0. This happens seemingly at random, and is unrelated to any specific site.
Here are the things I have tried already: (none worked to resolve the issue)
-Complete Spyware scans with two seperate spyware tools (Spybot and SpySweeper)
-Deleted and rebuilt from scratch the user's profiles (local and roaming)
-Formatted and rebuilt the users PC (OS and applications)
-Gave the user another PC that was working fine for it's previous owner, problem began on that machine within a day.
-Replaced all Ethernet cables associated with the users connection and moved him to different port on the hub, also had line tested to rule out any packet loss or line noise causing problems.
-Finally, gave user a brand new PC and completely deleted his profiles (before giving him the PC) so that he had a completely fresh setup of everything. Problem returned within minutes of giving him the new machine/profile.
As you can see, I've tried just about everything. I'm stumped. I thought it was spyware...but the scans and the fresh installs proved that wrong. Then I thought it was an IE corruption, but the format and fresh installs proved that wrong. So I figured it was his profile. but I've blown those away multiple times now and it still happens. Finally I ruled out bad network cabling just because I was desperate.
Anyone else got any ideas what the heck could be happening with this guy? He's the only user I have with this problem consitantly. I've poured over the Microsoft Knowledge Base articles on possible corruptions in DLLs and none of those apply or solved the issue. When it crashes, it identifies the offending module as UNKNOWN so I can't get any info on what's even causing the crash. It's driving me (and my user) crazy. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Max Points and an A to anyone that actually comes up with the solution, hell if I could give 5000 points instead of 500 I would!!
