Check your most recent updates were not region specific and that your Office installation is still set to your correct geographic region.
Go to "Control Panel > Regional and Language Options", select the Languages tab and click the Details button.
In the "Settings" tab of the next dialog box, set:
Default Input Language
English (United Kingdom) - United States
Installed Services
EN English (UnitedStates)
Keyboard
United States
If the US "Installed Services" are not shown, you may have to click the "Add" button to install them.
