diskeeper error

I have installed Diskeeper server on a Win2K server machine.  When I go to run the software I get the following error:

Unable to launch or connect to the diskeeper service.  Possible causes are that another diskeeper process is currently connected to this computer or diskeeper is not installed correctly.  0001

I can't seem to resolve this - has anyone seen this?

Hi:

Yes, I have seen this.

You may need to provide additional information such as:

Version of Diskeeper
Did you install latest service packs / patches for OS
Did you install latest service packs / patches for Diskeeper
Did you reboot the system after the install?  

What to look for 1st:
Check and see if the DKservice.exe service is running.  If it is, check to see if it's actively defragmenting your drive.  

If you did not reboot after installing you will need to do so.  One one occasion, I had to uninstall, reboot, reinstall, reboot to get it to work correctly.

1.  I have Diskeeper 7 installed
2.  OS is pacthed most current
3.  Diskeeper will not let me install the new build of diskeeper 7 - I am not sure if it is beacuse my build is too old
4.  Did do a reboot after install - no luck
5.  the dkservice.exe is not running

I've tried installing it on more than one box...with the same results - I tried it with Diskeeper 7 and Diskeeper 6 - both server versions - have the same problem on any machine I try.  All Win2K service pack 4

If you go to the Start button > Run > type 'services.msc' > hit <ENTER> ... I will assume the diskeeper services shows up in the list as being automatic, but not started. Try starting the service manually by right clicking it, and click start. Report back with the error you receive.

I stopped the service, set it to manual - started the service, opened diskeeper - same exact error.  Did it with a reboot, did it by stopping, not starting the service and simply openeing diskeeper - all options yield the same results:

I might suggest trying to upgrade to version 8 to see if it makes a difference...there is a free trial...

If not, do you have other defrag utilities installed like Norton Speedisk or PerfectDisk by chance?

You might also want to see if any other services are running that are part of those suites in msconfig (Start button > run > 'msconfig' > <ENTER> ... go to services tab and check the button that says 'hide all microsoft services'

Also, do you have administrative rights in the account you are using this from?

I emailed Diskeeper support - they filled me in on a little detail I didn't know or thing mattered -  I was trying to open the console over a term serv session - it doesn't work that way - logged on locally and it all works fine - I'm going to split the points here becasue they were all legitimite solutions

Just to support what was stated here, I had the same problem with the same versiona and it did have to with trying to run Diskeeper via Terminal Services. This problem does not exist with pcAnywhere.
