Thin client:
Compare it to using google.
Google has this big database containing information about mostly any webpage.
You only have IE (or a similar product).
Yet you are able to use all the data + the queries on the google servers. It does not cost you any computing power.
If you had to have the database on your computer and make your computer sweat to search for the correct pages it'd be fat client.

A fat client has a processor capable of doing the work. Memory to use, lots of HDD space etc.
Like a desktop PC.
A thin client is stripped down because all of the computing will be done on a server. (like a terminal)
