The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Professional freezes on start up

Asked by robertproden in Miscellaneous Software, Adobe Type Manager

Tags: responding, problem

I've owned Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Professional for about 6 months. No problem until a few days ago. Have not added anything to my PC which runs 2000 Professional since installing Acrobat.

The first time I had the problem, Adobe Acrobat would not open a PDF file. A window stating: "Could not find Acrobat External Windows Handler" came up.

The next five or six times I wanted to open a PDF file I tried opening Acrobat first. It immediately froze. The message at attempted restart was "Font Capture Problem - ending program "Font Capture" - program not responding."

The following few times the message changed to: "Acrobat Plug In could not find Adobe Acrobat."

I've already been through the Adobe "help" solutions which did not help me at all. Following their instructions I unistalled the previous versions of Readers I had (4.0, 5.0 and 6.0 and finally unistalled Professional 6.0).

I then re-installed Professional 6.0 from my exe file to no avail.

I performed the other 15 steps Adobe recommends, to no avail.

There was a step I could not finish which entailed going to the Start Menu, Run and entering c: enter, then "cd\" - at that point the prompt stated that "cd\" could not be found. Perhaps that's a clue.

Please, I want a REAL, custom solution - I don't want to be sent back to Adobe's worthless "help" online forum. As far as I'm concerned it's nothing but a sorry excuse for a company I used to respect to no longer offer real support for their proudcts.

Case in point - one of the first solutions Adobe offers is to "upgrade to 7.0." Yet, when I researched the same problem on Adobe's forum for 7.0, I discovered that 7.0 has the same problem with no better solution than their 15 step solution which did not help me for my 6.0!

Thank you very much.

Robert P
