I installed the debugger program SoftICE on windows 2000. I was asked this question prior to setup:
"If you want to use SoftICE setup on windows NT5 builds higher than 1924 you must turn off read-only memory protection. Do you want setup to set the registry and reboot with new settings?"
I chose yes. After a while I founbd it was not something I wanted and unistalled it.
Now when I boot up the windows 2000 boot logo does not show, only the white start up bar across the bottom. The computer stays at the white bar during the time that the windows 2000 logo would diplay. The startup works fine, I just want to know how to reverse the change and possibly "turn on" the read-only memory protection.

OK.I looked through the regisrty on a uneffected machine and did not see the value: EnforceWriteProtection. But, on my system at home (the one in question) this value is appearing on the right from the Memory Management folder.
I am guessing that I need to delete this vAlue "EnforceWriteProtection" from the registry, correct?
So, dafault windows 2000 wil not have this value in the registry?
I give credit to catlin1. Eve nthough this was posed in a two part posting, catlin1 gave me the registry path to turn on read-only memory protection
I still did have the problem of the GUI bipmap windlws 2000 proffesional logo not dispaying at bootup, but throgh looking up a way to change the boot up image I found the answer.
It was in the boot.ini. there was a switch added to the windows 2000 startup: /noguiboot.
I removed the switch nad wala, the image dipsplays at boot.
SoftICE claims that it needs to have read-only memory protection turned off in order to run, but I don't know why the switch was added to the boot.ini file.
Another odd thing is after I installed softICE the Norton antivirus was not on my system in system works. I had to re-do all of the Norton files and re-install NAV.
