You may also want to try zipping up the files and password protecting the zipped files on the usb drive.
Also consider different encryption software packages. for example, truecrypt http://www.truecrypt.org/
thanks for the efforts - I knew of most of these and hence they are not truly "free", as sort - they are trial versions - I liked the encryption suggestion in lue of not finding a truly "free" password lock usb key software but that presents whole new issues for people unfamilar with such programs (not all that user friendly) I'll keep this question open for longer and hopefully other suggestions will come (or hopefully a truly "free" password lock for usb drive
Completely free... creates a container the size of the entire drive so its not like encrypting individual folders or any of that stuff. Check it out :)
