The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Need to 'package' applications for deployment - Installshield AutoIT

Asked by matthewcapstick in Miscellaneous Software

Hi,

We have just bought, installed and configured DiagWin, which we will use to deploy applications to our user population. What we need now is to do the following:

Have an application that will allow us to install a package to a client with customised settings, i.e. license key, installation path, company name etc, but we need this to install silently.

The DiagWin guys, brought an application with them called AutoIT v3 and we used this to do a test package for an app called Dameware in the following manner:

Ran AutoIT and told it the path to the dameware setup.exe
Then went through the install until complete
Then AutoIT created a .exe file which will run the original setup.exe and perform all the tasks we performed, therefore installing Dameware as we wanted it.

We then tested this by deploying the AutoIT-created .exe to a client and it installed fine. The only problem is, the install appeared on the user's screen. They weren't prompted for anything, but still they could see the install process. This is not what we want. We don't want the user to visually be able to see the install.

Now.....we also bought Installshield 11 some time ago on a recommendation that it can do the job for us, and one of our guys has now had a brief look at this and cannot see how we can do it using that.

Anybody got any recommendations on what we are doing wrong, or have we got the wrong tools maybe?

Cheers
