The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Why is Verizon rejecting emails from Exchange

Asked by mhalp200 in Miscellaneous Software

My organization never had any issues sending emails to users@verizon.net.  We were using sendmail 8.13.0 (Running on Redhat 9.0 Linux) as the mail server.  We just switched to Microsoft Exchange 2003.  Now Verizon is rejecting our emails.  The bounce message reads:

There was a SMTP communication problem with the recipient's email
server.  Please contact your system administrator.
<fullyqualified.domain.com #5.5.0 smtp;550 You are not allowed to send
mail:sv16pub.verizon.net>
Reporting-MTA: dns; exchange1.mydomain.com

This happens from all email clinets - Eudora and Outlook.

However, I can send an email message by telnetting to the mail server.  Then it is received without any problems:

telnet xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx 25

helo mydomain.com
mail from:user@mydomain.com
rcpt to:user@verizon.net
data

text
.

I spoke with Verizon and they were unable to assist me.  What does Verizon not like about the way that exchange (when accessed from an email client) is sending emails.

The Exchange Server has the same real world ip as the old Linux sendmail server.  It also has the same fully qualified domain name.  I don't see anything different iin the headers that I see when email is sent to an outside email address.

In addition, all other major isp's and email providers have no problem accepting our emails.  The only issue we have is with Verizon.

How can I tweak Exchange to get Verizon to accept emails?

This one belongs in the twilight zone!  If I could award more points, I would.

Thanks
