in the days of trying to solve this problem i ran across one solution, an old post on microsoft site where tech spent two hours having client rename all sorts of files that tech said were corrupted by anti virus and spyware scans...say what? this is so unstable that it cannot handle virus and spy scans?
i did have, briefly, stuffit installed, but have uninstalled. found hooks all thru the registry but have removed most...all that i could find anyway. i had thought stuff it might be the culprit as every time outlook started it said it could not find the stuff it dll. after cleaning hooks when i tried outlook again it complained it could not find the stuff it link and would i like to disable the plug in...yes!!!!! i had disabled the plug in in the advanced panel but it kept looking for it.
all thru this the same error that is above.
have run in the past office xp with no problems.
office 2003 was running fine.
computer recently reformatted, cks clean for virus and spyware
in all of the digging found many dat files are listed as video file and the association was with nero. uninstalled nero, but still same association with video files.
also discovered when i renamed outcmd.data file to outcmd.dat.old outlook is not making a new outcmd file. on my husband's computer it is making one. his copy of outlook works fine, same win 2000 sp 4, avast anti virus. his file associations are not video cd.
somewhere in all of this dat files have become associated in error...my guess anyway...new territory for me. not just outlook dat files. would like to know how to repair dat file associations.
i have reinstalled mso.dll downloaded on line but it is ver 9, so renamed to old.
the sp 2 should update mso right? and why no outcmd?
i have posted to forums and no one even answers...well, one fello on about said ck for add ons...but i had posted all add ons were deleted. he also said out of his area of expertise.
if there is any way i can keep from another format, groan, that would be great. if i have to reformat, how do i keep this from happening again. i see the mso problem is rather widespread.
if you can solve this, worth every bit of the 10 bucks. since we run a non profit, 10$ is not a measly amount, so i hope you can help.
thanks so much,
rose
