You can try using another port for skype. Go into the skype settings and set it to something else. Some programs may require registry editing for this "setting".

Whenever I use Skype it takes anything from a minute to maybe 15 minutes and then I loose the connection to the router. The connection can not be repaired and I have to restart my computer to get back online.
I'm using the latest version of skype and drivers. i even try downgrading the driver, but the problem remains.
Using MSN to talk is no problem, it only occurs in Skype.
Any suggestions as to what the problem could be?

Thank you both :)
I disabled Windows Zero Configuration and this prevented the lost connection issue, but quality was still poor.
Configured Skype to use a specific port, disabled the use of port 80 and 443, and configured port forwarding on my router. Now the quality is excellent and my connection the same, so I've spilt the points.
Thanks,

It's an issue with a wireless lan protocol which will periodically check for a more optimal internet connection. You can't permanently disable it, because you'd never be able to connect to your router, but this article explains how to create a shortcut to disable it after establishing your connection.
I ended up using a wired connection. I use the wireless connection for convenience every now and then, but have to disable the Windows Zero Configuration each time.
