The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. Error 0409 during installation of Roxio Easy Media Creator 9 (EMC9)

After prompting for the installation language, the EMC9 installation fails with an error 0409.

First, the sequence that led up to this.
- I installed EMC9 and during the installation it prompted several times to remove earlier versions of a few modules. I let it uninstall these and it ran to completion. I then rebooted
- After installation, I was surprised to see that EMC8 was still installed and was still listed in Add/Remove programs. I therefore did an uninstall of EMC8 with a reboot.
- It then repeatedly complained that Sonic modules were not installed and wanted the CD to complete the installation. Neither the EMC8 nor EMC9 CD satisfied the request.
- I then uninstalled EMC9. This did stop the Sonic problem.
- I saw that Drag to Disk was still installed, so I uninstalled that, too.
- To be sure it was clean, I ran JV16 and Norton Windoctor to remove many, many now bad registry entries.
- Rebooted
- Tried to reinstall EMC9 and started getting the 0409 errors.

Some of the things I have tried:
- Ran regedit and tried to find and delete all the Roxio and Sonic entries.
- cleaned up the temp files of all the installation files
- removed the Roxio entries in the PATH environment variable
- removed any of the remaining Sonic and Roxio directories in Program Files and Program Files\Common Files.
- Tried to install in Safe Mode, but that isn't allowed.

None of these helped and I now have no version of EMC installed and cannot reinstall EMC9.

Any help is appreciated.
