The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. Internet connection for e-mails but wont connect with IE or FF

My laptop is connected via a network to my family pc.  I am unable to establish a network link through my ethernet conncection to this  pc however I can with my wirless network.  

For some reason I'm able to connect to the internet via Outlook (2003) and download my e-mails but are unable to connect via a web browser IE or FF (I can see all my emails except the ones the have pictures etc).  The web browser looks as though its about to connect but seems to just hang, website found waiting for a reply.  The stange thing is if I type in the google address it goes striaght to  it and I can even perform some searches.  However when I try to click a  link it starts to access and again just hangs!

I thought I could fix this by a re-intsall of windows XP.  I did this but still have the same problem.  Now I can't get windows updates etc.  Does a re-install reformat the HD and get rid of everything on it before?  Maybe this is part of the problem, perhaps I need to do this (if so instructions on how to do this would be helpful).

My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 8600 and the o/s is windows xp professional.
