I have set up a six column layout in Adobe InDesign that looks like a newspaper page. When I justify to both the left and right to spread them out over the width of the column, some words get very bunched together and it looks like there is no space between them. Is there any way to prevent this in an automated fashion? Thanks.

You can use the Margins and Columns settings (where there are settings for how many columns and the gutter between the columns) So, you can increase the column gutter amout.
In InDesign CS you do this: select the text box, select Layout from the main menu, in the pop up window, put in the number of columns and increase the gutter. It will show you guides and how much space is being increased for the gutter.

You can change it in Paragraph Styles.
Select Indent and spacing Alingment: Left Justify
Then in Justification, change Word- and Letter Justification Minimum and Maximum values to fit your needs.
It allso helps if you Hyphenate your text, in this case remember select right language in Advansed Charester Format tab.
