Question

Error opening ACT! 2008 address book from outlook 2007...

Asked by: abers

I am receiving an error everytime I open Outlook that states "The ACT! Address Book Service is not properly configured, or one of the configured databases is locked.  Do you want to configure it now?"

I am prompted with a choose as to whether I want to configure it now.  If I choose no, then Outlook opens normally although the ACT! addin does not load.  If I choose yes to configure the database, I am prompted to provide the username and password for the database.  I enter the required information and click ok.  I am then prompted with another error message.  "The indicated database cannot be opened, it is either not properly configured or it is currently locked. Please check the path, username and password."

If i disable the Windows firewall outlook seems to open fine. I have contacted ACT who asked me to add various exclusions to the Windows Firewall, which I have done, but it has not resolved the issue.

I am using Outlook 2007 and ACT! 2008 with Windows Vista.

Can you open ACT! normally?
Is the database you are opening on your local PC or on a server?

abers,

Have you tried disabling the Window firewall (as opposed to adding exclusions)?  I'd try turning that and UAC off to see if it would work.

Have you tried that?

Hi

ACT seems to open fine, the database is stored on a server.

Outlook will open fine with the windows firewall disabled but I would prefer to leave it on

Have you tried the fixes listed at either of these:

I have looked at both of those solutions but they do not seem to help in this case

That's the Vista firewall and, with it off, you don't get the error?

Have you turned off the Vista User Account Control (UAC)? It's crap and really should be off for any user till they decide to allow exceptions. If not sure how to do this, go to Control Panel and type "UAC" into the search bar at the top of the screen.

Turning off the UAC and then removing and adding the Act address book in Outlook got it working . Many thanks

I have been having this same problem with Outlook 2007 indicating that my Act! 2008 database is locked. I have disabled my windows firewall, the McAfee firewall and my UAC with not luck.

I'm interested in knowing if anyone has another idea on this problem.  The problem started for me when I did a 'repair' reinstall on my version of Act! about a month ago.
