Attachment Details

Outlook 2003 does not print attachment file names when printing e-mail

I am unsure why this is occuring but one of my systems is not printing the attachment file names when printing any e-mails. All the other computer systems in the office appear to be working normally and will print the attachment file name when you print an e-mail or they will print an icon with the attachment file name below depending on the e-mail format (i.e. plain, rich, HTML).

ie. An e-mail will look like this:

From: John Smith

Sent: 1/25/2008

To: Jane Smith

Subject: Here is the attachment

Attachment: attachment.pdf

(body of e-mail below)Start Free Trial

I don't want to mess around with SP3 yet. I don't like what microsoft did with their file blocking of insecure files. I understand their justification however I don't think it was the right thing to do. Despite their being a workaround, I don't want to take a chance I will run into something else that may cause an issue.

I just checked Microsoft's website and Office 2003 Service Pack 1 is still on their website.

I haven't been able to re-create the problem.  There were a few issues a while ago related to Outlook 2003 and Internet Explorer 7

Which version of Internet Explorer do they have?

If it is IE7 then it maybe a HTML problem.

Either

In Outlook, go to "Tools" => "options"; in the preferences tab, click "email options".

Under message handling, check the box "Read all standard mail in plain text"

You now need to quit Outlook and start Outlook again, and printing will be fine.

OR

Try applying the latest Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (MS07-027 was where they fixed the problem with IE7 and outlook 2003. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931768  )
