The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Cannot open or delete iTunes because Windows Installer is "not correctly installed".

Until today, opening iTunes was not problematic. Now when I try to open it, using my desktop icon or from the All Programs menu, the Problem With Shortcut dialog box tells me "The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed..." When I tried to uninstall iTunes from Control Panel | Programs & Features (my thinking being that uninstalling and then reinstalling would solve the problem), I get the same error message in the same dialog box. When I tried to "Repair" it in Control Panel | Programs & Features, I get the same error message, and when I tried to "Change" it in Control Panel | Programs & Features, the Windows Installer dialog box tells me "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'iTunes.msi' in the box below." When I click OK to get out of the latter dialog box, another Windows Installer dialog box tells me "The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it." Finally, when I try to install iTunes (ver. 7.6) from the Apple site (my thinking being that overwriting the the files on my system will correct the problem), clicking the Download button brings me right to the Thank You For Downloading iTunes page -- in other words, it thinks I already have it so it won't perform the download. So I'm between a rock and a hard place here: I can't open iTunes, can't delete it, and can't overwrite it. Suggestions?Start Free Trial
