It *can* be possible to directly restore data from Sage Line 50 into a *compatible* version of Instant. Instant being a cut-down version of Line50. Normally you might want to do this the other way round, and I have managed to do this in the past for Accountants wishing to do year end's for clients who have Instant. However, I see no reason why it can't be done the other way (*NO GUARANTEES*), provided that:-
**************************
BEFORE DOING ANYTHING ELSE,
Make sure noone is in the program
then backup what is in the ACCDATA directory (do not use the Sage Backup facility, just copy everything in ACCDATA + subdirectories), both of Instant and of Line50.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!
**************************
Do a File Maintenance of your Line 50 data. If there are Errors or Warnings, make sure they are not structural problems. Do not press the Fix button to fix errors, I have had the experience of the "tail wagging the dog". If not sure, post here.
Copy the contents of the line50 ACCDATA directory + subdirectories to the Instant ACCDATA directory. Before doing anything else, run the File Maintenance option.
If that doesn't work, you can, as seriousnick suggests, export and import. However, it is complicated by the fact that SR's and PP's (for example) won't be brought in. This is because a CSV EXport/Import will not have the necessary linkages to enable the matching of Invoices to Payments. You could edit the CSV report to export everything, then amend the SR's to SA's, and the PP's to PA's before Importing. This means that they will need to be re-allocated (which payment was set off against which invoice). This will work (I've done it many times).
If it doesn't work, then you will need to restore your data.

You can only restore to an application you backed up from.
So if you backed up from line 50 you cannot restore to instant.
However, you could probably export and import.
