I have 4 Brother MFCs in the office. 2 8860, 1 8840, 1 6490.
All the PCs in the office have Controlcenter3 installed. On some PCs they can see 3 of 4 scanners. on some 2 of 4. I can print to all from all PCs.
I cant find a way to make the controlcenter pickup the the other missing brothers on the network. It seems to just find the ones it wants to but I have no way to manually add the ones it doesnt find.
I would like all PCs to be able to scan to all MFCs using CC3.
The missing scanners arent the same on each PC. there is no common problem. On some that are missing if I go to the MFC and Scan to PC I can see the PCs in the list. Scanning to them opens CC3 and the scan progress bar. However if I open CC3 the scanner I just used is still not in the dropdown.
Ive tried reinstalling CC3. reinstalling the printers etc.
How can I manually add MFCs to CC3?

It sounds to me that it is a polling/timeout problem. The ControlCenter sends out an "are you there?" message and doesn't wait long enough before continuing with devices that respond.
In Windows Control Panel, you have tried using the "Scanners and Cameras" utility to add them that way?
Other than that I don't think there is a way, other than ask Brother for a fix.
Not sure whether the BRAdmin utility is the same as ControlCenter, but here's the link - updated pretty recently too (April or March depending on how you interpret the date).

nope bradmin is a little app that lets you change some IP configureations.
FYI
The official response from Brother is you must reinstall CC3 for each printer you want to scan from. So if you have 4 brothers and 10 computers that's 40 installs of CC3 to make all 4 scanners available to all PCs.
And on top of that you have to use the CC3 installer that went with the model you are installing. Otherwise it names the MFC the wrong name in the CC. So if you had an 8840 and an 8860 if you used the 8860 installer and pointed to the 8840 there is no place to actually name it so you get 8860 and 8860#2 in your CC3 drop down.
Stupidest thing Ive ever seen... Beware that if purchasing Brother MFCs.
Although to be honest I dont remeber where you can add new printers in the HP Director either. None of these MFCs seem very SMB friendly.

Works like a charm. Its a shame about not being able to rename the printers though, it gets coinfusing.
Yes you can rename the devices - you need to do it manually in the registry.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWAR
or
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWAR
You should see the the printer Key MFC-9420CN LAN or MFC-9420CN LAN #2
Just rename this key to something you want - i.e. Sales
Then close Control Center and Re-open, you will now see the printer names changed to what makes sense to you :-)

If you have devices A B C D, and a pc is only recognizing A and B, have you tried refreshing the Control Center install with devices A and B switched off?
The problem could be due to ControlCenter polling the network for devices. Devices A and B are replying quickly, swamping out any attempt by devices C and D, which may be replying more slowly, to reply.
I can't remember the exact functionality of the menus on these Brother machines, but there may be a place where the IP address can be set manually. Another suggestion would be to disable the dynamic assignment of an IP address (DHCP address) to each Brother and, instead putting a fixed address in.
