The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Win-Pak SE - Accidentally uninstalled SQL

Asked by ZooyorQ in Miscellaneous Software, Databases Miscellaneous

Tags: win-pak

I accidentally uninstalled WIn-Pak SE's SQL Instance.  I have a backup of the SQL database but this software is so unsupported and undocumented that I can't even recall what version of SQL was used?  MSDE? Personal?  SQL 2005 Express?

I installed SQL Server 2005 Express, attached the Database files and I can manually start the services using the debug's but can't start them in services.msc or from the Win-Pak utility.  That said it can get up and running and appears totally normal if i manually run the debug versions of all the services one by one, except for the control file service.  It keeps saying "Configuration Not Found: Error Code 1!" .. When i look in the GUI i can see the Control File is empty.  I'm not sure if the control file info is stored in the database or not, found a dbo.controlfile table, its null though.

I recall there being a bunch of things in there before.

I also have a problem where it says "Service is scheduled for deletion" if i try to start any of the services from services.msc or the win-pak service manager.

Seems odd I can start them via the debugging option and almost everything works.

Any help or assistance in what direction i should be going would be helpful. My next step is to install SQL Server 2000 as it seems its looking maybe for the native sql server 2000 instance instead of the named 2005 instance?

I've reconfigured the DSN's I should mention which to me seems like that would have resolved it.  But still can only start it via debug.

Thanks in advance!
