I've been working on a Lenovo SL300 laptop running Windows Vista Ultimate for about 6 months. Service pack 2 is installed and this system is patched via a WSUS server on our network. The windows defender (firewall) is disabled, as I'm running Symantec Endpoint Protection. Additionally, VPN client for Vista 5.0.05.0280 is also installed, which allows me to telecommute from time to time. The problem I'm running into is that the Cisco VPN client has never worked on my laptop - EVER. Not even once since the day I received it. Speicially, I'll be prompted for my userID and a unique six digit number to authenticate (meaning I can reach the concentrator) but then after a moment or two the app spits out VPN error 427. This is consistent. I've never got anything more or less than this exact message. I have verified that the Cisco VPN service is running and have also verified that the VPN configuration settings are correct. I have verified numerous times that my connection credentials are entered into the software correctly. Under the "network connections" screen in the control panel, I can see that the VPN adapter is enabled. I also can tell you that the client software seems to have no problem with contacting the VPN concentrator because I'm prompted for my VPN login credentials. The program gives me the same message regardless of whether I'm corded or wireless. I have also tried using a sprint wireless (mobile broadband) card but to no avail.
Here's where things get a little strange:
I run VMware on my PC and booted into a virtual Windows XP environment. Not only does the VPN connect through my virtual machine, but it's connecting using the version of VPN software that is supposed to be "vista only". Why would my software work on an XP pro machine but not on the very machine on which it's designed foir? Any suggestions on the Vista machine for resolving this 427 Cisco VPN error? It's probably rediculous obvious setting that I'm not seeing somewhere.
Thanks in advance for your help!!
