Total Recorder is a good product also: http://www.hitsquad.com/sm
Have you tried downloading Riverpast from here (Maker's website)
http://www.riverpast.com/e
To use total recorder you have to play the file in a media player(WMP, REAL,..) then record in TR as the name implies. The audio file will loose only very very little quality as total recorder records directly from the program.

Try dBpowerAMP Music Converter:
http://www.dbpoweramp.com/
Get the codec for .au here:
http://www.dbpoweramp.com/
I have dbpoweramp, just downloaded the au codec and converted .au file successfully to mp3.
1. Download dbpoweramp Music Converter
2. Download the au codec (at the link above) ..it will install to the correct directory after you click on the download.
3. Open Dbpoweramp Music Converter. Just navigate to your file and open it. A popup will give you the option to save as wav, mp3.
..or, after you download the converter and the codec, you can just right-click on the .au file and choose "convert to", (there will be a new "convert to" option to your right-click on a sound file) and it will give you the options to convert.
..and, it's freeware.
Hi jfk596,
>I've tried Dbpoweramp and an error popup comes up and says "Not an AU/SND File", Even though the file properties says "AU Format Sound" and the file extension is .au
When do you get this error popup? Did you download the au codec as I suggested? Also note you can specify a directory for the converted file for Dbpoweramp.
I have converted other .au files to mp3 successfully following the instructions I gave above, so if it is indeed an .au file, you should be able to convert it. Please describe the steps you took to install Dbpoweramp and what you did to convert, and maybe we can see what the problem is.
jfk596, Please respond to the comments from the Experts.

That was the question. My suggestion: http:Q_20994780.html#11114
I offered a link to a free program and specific instructions. I have used Dbpoweramp Music Converter to successfully convert an .au to an .mp3, which is what the asker wanted. The asker has a history of giving a B grade and I believe I gave a straightforward "A" answer.
If the file is indeed not an .au file to begin with, that is not the fault of any expert here who offered suggestions to the askers specific question. To troubleshoot the problem further I tried requesting more info from the asker but they did not respond.
Recommendation: I should get the accept (with a grade of "A") or at least an assist.
