The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

What is causing loss when I use Lossless wma?

Asked by SAbboushi in General Multi-Media Software

Tags: lossless, wma

I ripped several of my CDs using wma 9.1 lossless

When playing back the wma files, I hear occasional burps and clicks as if there was loss in the encoding.  I rewind and listen to the same section to confirm that it is the file (as opposed to something else) - and the same burps/clicks are repeated.

I believe the typical wisdom is "make sure that there is nothing else going on in the background when you are ripping and encoding - no antivirus stuff, etc..."

I have a 3.2GHz P4 with HT, 1GB RAM and a 5400rpm disk.  I would think that even if there was stuff going on in the background during the ripping and encoding, it would need to be something very substantial to leave so few resources that it would impact the ripping and encoding.  I paid for the extra horsepower/resources so I wouldn't have to deal with this type of issue, most of the time.

My question:
What could be the cause of this on the type of machine I am using?  If you are going to say "make sure that there is nothing else going on in the background...", then I would need to know how to identify the bottleneck - because I really don't want to have to end all programs and processes every time I want to rip and/or encode... ; )

Does anyone know how to help me resolve this?  Thanks-
